Stars Hollow Rabbitry strives to breed Holland Lops to improve their overall type, thus improving their show potential.  We raise ALL our rabbits as the pets they are supposed to be 1st, regardless of type, color, gender, etc.  Our Philosophy is that a great show rabbit can be a great pet & a great pet can be a show rabbit, and ALL rabbits can be a great companion regardless of pedigrees, show status, mix-breeds, dwarf or commercial types. The key is not the breed, but the humans that own them and care for them.
At Stars Hollow, rabbits are part of the family; treated as pets before, after and during their show or brood careers if they go on to have one. Our Brood stock is treated as well as our show stock, we breed for ourselves, and the enjoyment we get out of raising and showing rabbits, not just to sell them.  The rabbits that become available are not rejects, rather have types ot traits we cannot use in our projects/herd, and we can't keep them all! Our rabbits are born and raised in the house & handled several times a day their entire lives, once they are weaned from their mother at about 8 to 9 weeks, we usually move the Mom back into the Rabbitry and the kits stay in the house for at least 2 more weeks so we can watch them adjust to life without Mom. We do this because this is a stressful time for this sensitive breed, we want to watch for any signs of distress, eating issues etc. This is another reason we don't sell 8 week old kits, separation from Mom, siblings, and change in environment all at once is NOT good for this breed.
Holland Lop rabbits are especially affectionate and require daily attention and love, and are easily a 6-8 years commitment, please be prepared for the responsibility.
We would be pleased to assist you with adding a bunny to your family.  Faith handles every rabbit daily, socializes them with our rescue dogs, begins litter box training, and gets them used to being part of a family.  Faith is an excellent judge on which one of her bunnies would be the right fit for each person & situation. Faith is THE person that handles the bunnies the most and gets to know their personalities, and is a good judge of character, as well as their overall type and traits.

Stars Hollow's History & Background

Faith began showing and raising Holland Lops as a form of therapy for her Autism, it has helped her develop social skills, make friends, learn how to be a courteous winner and gracious loser.

Along the way, it became clear that she pours her heart into the care of her rabbits in a way she cannot with people. As her Mom, it has helped me understand that she can actively participate in the world around us (at shows for instance) and she does just fine.

We both enjoy animals, as I used to raise and show American Pit-Bull Terriers for many years, and raising and showing rabbits fulfills the animal lover in both of us.

Holland Lop History
According to the brief history on the website
of the Holland Lop Rabbit Specialty Club and the book “Domestic Rabbits And Their Histories” by Bob Whitman, this breed took more than a decade to develop. Adrian de Cock, a rabbit breeder in Holland, began the process in 1949. The origin breeds included mainly French Lops and Netherland Dwarfs, with one English Lop in the mix. The Holland Lop breed was recognized by the national rabbit club in the Netherlands in 1964. The breed arrived in the United States in the mid-1970s. It was recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association at the 1979 convention in Tucson, Arizona, and shown for the first time as an official ARBA breed at the 1980 convention. Since then, it has grown to be one of the most popular rabbit breeds.

Holland Lop Facts
Year Recognized By ARBA:
1979 (first official showing in 1980)
In Holland and in countries guided by the British Rabbit Council, the breed is called the Miniature Lop.

Holland Lops are nicknamed “The Hallmark Breed.”
Holland Lops have rollback fur, meaning it gradually returns to normal position when stroked from back to front.
The Holland Lop weighs no more than 4 pounds and has average length, rollback fur, and the distinctive lop ears. The standard of perfection for the breed calls for Holland Lops to have a compact body type that is short, massive, and thickset. It also specifies the ideal for the head, ears, fur, and other characteristics.
Colors: Holland Lops are categorized into eight color groups for showing, with more than 30 recognized colors overall.
